Building Data Literacy – Programs and Frameworks

-

Several steps are involved in increasing data literacy in an organization. This is how to make your data literacy program work.

1. Assessment

Assessing how data literacy is being practiced by your employees is the best way to get started. You might be surprised at how important data literacy can be in your organization, even if employees don’t seem connected to data analytics functions.

The composite of all your employee assessment results can be used to help you get a picture of the “bigger picture”, which is how you are doing at data literacy levels at the company, department, and team levels.

2. Strategic Planning

Once you have an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of your organization, you can move on with strategic Planning. This is where your next step will be: “Where do you want to go?”

What are your main goals for your data literacy modules and programs? While not every employee needs to be an expert in all things, it may make more sense to use outside consultants for your business model. You might also want to build a team of people analysts within your organization. Think about the future of data literacy in your organization and make a plan.

3. Training and Development

This is where you will identify the steps you need to follow to make your plan a reality. As with any other skill, improving data literacy takes training. Ask yourself:

  • Which employees would be the most benefit from training?
  • Which skills and competencies should we focus on the most?
  • What should the training plan and development path look for?

Who will run the training sessions and who will supervise them? Will they be online/self-administered, in-person, or a combination of both? Are we able to do this without the help of an outsider?

4. Measurement

Now it is time to evaluate whether your training programs are effective. This requires you to define success in your company, the standards that your employees must follow, and how to measure these standards.

You might want to return to the data literacy assessments that you took at the start of this process and make them part of your employee evaluation strategy. This will determine how often they should be administered.

Data literacy training, like all types of training, isn’t “one-and-done”. Although a single session can help get you closer to your data literacy goals for your business, it is important to incorporate data literacy training into your long-term strategy to achieve the best results.

Data Literacy

Data literacy consultant is important for your business. Digital literacy is just one example. Another is data literacy.

Digital Literacy

digital literacy is often thought to be simply the ability to use technology. But the concept extends beyond that. True digital literacy is more than just being able to use technology in their day to accomplish their tasks. Ideally, they should also know how technology can help them make their jobs more efficient.

Because technology plays a key role in data analysis, digital literacy must be a prerequisite.

Data culture

It is important to ensure that all employees are data-literate to create a data culture within your company.

What exactly is data culture? Data culture is a combination of four distinct areas: human capital capabilities, human resources processes, technology capabilities, and technology processes.

  • Data is key to improving business results.
  • Full-trained employees (human resource capacities)
  • Strong HR policies, procedures, and human resource processes (human resources processes).
  • The right technology and infrastructure (technology capability)
  • A knowledge of technology and how to use it in the best possible way (technology processes)
  • As you can see, data literacy goes hand in hand with “human resource capacities” as a segment of data culture.

Conclusion – Do You Need Data Literacy Coaching?

It is possible to be excited to start data literacy training programs now that you have a better understanding of what data literacy is and the benefits it offers.

You might find data literacy consulting beneficial. Data literacy consulting might be an option for you if you don’t know where to start, need assistance with your strategic planning, or need data analytics experts to administer training and assessments.
